The Four Js consisted of Ernie Spano, Johnny October, Joe "Junior" Pirollo and Bob Finiz. Bob Finiz was the inhouse producer for Jamie Records and Pirollo, known also as "Joey Roberts," were brothers in law. Finiz was married to Pirollo's sister Marie. The Four Js signed with Jamie Records in December, 1963, very late in the history of doo-wop. But they were testimony to the enduring popularity of the street corner doo-wop sound of their native Philadelphia, where, despite the impending arrival of the Beatles, Beatlemania and the British musical invasion, the Four Js became a hit group. They had previously recorded as the Fabulous Four and had backed fellow-South Philadelphia recording star Fabian before recording on their own as the Four Js.
