The Ambassadors were a Philadelphia favorite from the time they first took the fabled stage of the Uptown Theater in Philadelphia in 1969.

National recognition came with their first single, “I Really Love You,” which peaked at number 43 on the R&B chart. The group, which met after a baseball game in Fairmount Park, were the amalgamation of two local high-school groups. What set them apart was winning a singing contest at the fabled Uptown Theater on North Broad Street in Philadelphia. What set their music apart was that it contained the session musicians who morphed into MFSB and created the Philly Soul hits of Philadelphia International Records. As the album cover shows, these were the musicians backing the Ambassadors  to create their own Philly Soul before its time.
