The Waveriders, a group formed in the studio to take advantage of the new surf craze, was the brainchild of Jamie producer Bob Finiz and his brother-in-law and fellow Four Js artist, Joseph "Junior" Pirollo (the brother of "Angel Marie", Finiz's wife he wrote the song about for Ernie & the Halos--"the Girl From Across the Sea") . It certainly caught the wave of the sound, which takes a guitar riff from Jamie artist Duane Eddy and has the freeform sound that surf added to the mix. About his relation to surf music, Duane Eddy told American Routes host Nick Spitzer that much of his music was conceived in the desert around Phoenix, where Duane lived and recorded. Surf music, Duane quipped, was just a little a little further down the beach.
